José Juan Valdez is originally from Romita, Guanajuato, Mexico. He is a Certified Family Education Specialist, having earned his certification in 2003 from Houston Community College. In 2022, he received a Certification in Marriage and Family from Universidad Panamericana in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy, awarded in 1999 from the Conciliar Seminary of León, and a Master's Degree in Pastoral Studies, which he obtained in 2007 from the University of Saint Thomas in Houston, Texas. Most recently, in 2023, he earned a second Master's Degree in Sacred Scripture from the same institution. José Juan is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Ministry at Oblate School of Theology in San Antonio, Texas.
José Juan has served in various parishes within the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, including the Catholic Charismatic Center, St. Paul the Apostle, and St. Luke. Additionally, Jose Juan’s prior experience includes serving as the Director of Adult Formation and Family Life at Emmaus Parish in Lakeway, Texas, within the Diocese of Austin. He is presently the Associate Director of Adult Evangelization and Family Life here at Christ the Good Shepherd Catholic Community.
He is the author of multiple publications covering a wide range of topics, including Introduction to the Bible, Charismatic Renewal, Youth Evangelization, Marriage Evangelization, Family Healing, and Vatican II, as well as Poetry and Reflections. In collaboration with various priests, deacons, and laypeople, he directs an online evangelization and formation platform known as Paulus Media, which offers video series, reflections, and articles focused on family formation and education.
Jose Juan and his wife Alba have been married for almost 20 years and have three children: Natalia, Diego, and Emilio. Together, Jose Juan and Alba lead a ministry for marriages and families called Nazareth. This ministry is dedicated to the holistic healing and integral development of families. José Juan has been an instructor and facilitator for the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston's Formation Programs for nearly two decades, and he is deeply passionate about Evangelization and Faith Formation.
